Blood and Guts is about much more than…you guessed it…blood and guts, according to Chris Jericho.

The former AEW World Champion thinks the highly-anticipated battle between his Inner Circle and his rival MJF‘s Pinnacle during this week’s Blood and Guts match is much more about the storytelling than it is about how much blood is shed during the match.

Jericho explained as much when he recently appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“I think it’s more about the intensity, about the story we tell, how the match ends. So, yeah I’m sure there’ll be some blood, there won’t be any guts, I don’t wanna disappoint you guys but nobody’s gonna get Harakiri’d with a Samarui sword or anything like that. But I think once again, what do you want to do to really show how intense and violent this match is, guys don’t have to bleed to do that, but again, it’s the first time we’ve ever seen this, it’s not a true-blue Wargames either. The apparatus is different just because…I don’t think I’m giving anything away here but the configurations of Daily’s Place, it’s not…you’ve never seen an apparatus like this, there are some differences to it.”

“So, Blood and Guts really is a new version, it’s not WWE’s version of a Wargames, it’s not Dusty’s version of a Wargames, it’s AEW’s version of a Wargames, which is why it’s called Blood and Guts, it’s got a different name to it. So, I like that, I like the fact that it has to be different, not just because we don’t own the copyright to Wargames but because we’re actually making this a little bit different from what you’re used to. So, I think it’s one of those destination shows that Dave called it, it’s a destination match, we’ve already sold more tickets to this show than we have for any post-pandemic show just on the interest for that and I think that people are going to be very satisfied but I don’t think we’re gonna see 10 guys bleeding all over the place, I think that kind of takes away from the violence rather than add to it but it’s gonna be a smartly worked, excellent story match for sure.”

Jericho would go on to detail the differences between Blood and Guts and the Stadium Stampede match from Double Or Nothing 2020.
